Hello friends.
I've been living out in the country on and off for the last few months. Tomorrow I'm leaving the farm to go back to the city for a week.
After spending so much time out here I've come to realize that in the great battle of City Winter vs. Country Winter there is a definite victor. Winter in the country is lovely.
This is a true epiphany. Anyone that knows me can say that I am no advocate for winter. After moving from Saskatchewan to Alberta, then to Vancouver Island, and then Australia, I came back to Saskatchewan (with no long underwear!) and bitched all the way through my first prairie winter in eight years.
Four years later I have to say that I don't mind it so much anymore. Especially out here where I can have long walks, uninterrupted by uncleared side walks, or yellow snow on every corner. Or how about the recurring fear that I will slip on the icy roads and fall under a Dodge Hemi.
If this girl must brave a prairie winter, I'm far better off in the country. Yesterday the only traffic I saw on the grid road was a tractor pulling an auger.
I will be pleased to relax in my apartment, but for now I'm quite content here amid all the winter quiet.
