whatever works

Hello friends.

This weekend I'm taking Jeremy and Elizabeth to Herbert.  There we will play an evening of love songs for the town's Sweet Heart night. 

Happy love songs are a bit out of character for me, but as I am equipped with both my own sweet heart and a dear friend who is visiting from Australia there will be no blue valentines for me this year.

In preparation I will be writing the ubiquitous set-list.  I have a lot of trouble with setlists.  You have to pick the right songs, the overall set needs to have a shape and if there's two sets it's just double complicated.

It sounds minor, but I spend more time thinking about it than you would expect.  But, after many attempts, I've come up with the handiest way to get the job done.

I write every song title on a slip of paper and then push the papers around on the floor until I have something that fits.

It's absurd, but it works.
